I'm unsure if my pictures and the song go together or even tell a story ; I think I lost myself in this project a little bit. The pictures I did take helped me create an actual character, someone bold, tough, and elusive & secondary character meant to be "Tom Waits" longing for this girl ; Anyways, here is what I have:

  1. The photography is really nice. I have to admit that I didn't connect the first three images into any kind of story until the last one - the shot of the lips. That being said, I think it was a very productive beginning, like watching the first 10 seconds of a music video. However, it does still feel like just a beginning. The idea of the characters in separate images with the connecting factor happening in shots without either them is kind of cool. Keep playing with it!

  2. You might consider shooting both characters in the same setting, probably from different angles but recognizable in both images. This way we can place the two of them within the same area in our heads, even if they are never actually together. Also, the settings are feeling a little happy for the song to me, not bad, but I'm loosing the connection. The last shot is definitely working best of the set. Try building from that point and see where it leads.

  3. Very happy to see the photos! Technically, watch the tones of the skin. You are losing detail in the high-key areas. As an animator, I would suggest using several layers with masks (painting in the details where you need them and allowing the layering to create one image). But talk with the photo peeps about technical strategies.
The focus of the eyes on photos 2 feels distant... This is subjective, but I prefer when the eyes are focused on an actual object (we don't need to know or see what she's looking at). Especially when the background is ambiguous...
The expression in photo 3 is becoming the character (she looks like she is starting to think about something...). The slight pose of the hand is helping too... but, it is still a bit ambiguous.
You are treading on a fine line between kitsch and illustration... in order to find your illustrations, you might have to trod through the land of kitsch! Don't worry, just keep working...
